Graf Zeppelin and Franken Expedition

On Tuesday June 7th we came back from a very exciting DIRrebreather Expedition to the Baltic Sea, Poland. After 13 hours of driving and 12 hours on the boat (departing from Hel Port), we arrived at the diving site: the wreck of the Graf Zeppelin.

DIRrebreather Graf Zeppelin and Franken

The Graf lays on 85 meters, but the interesting part of the wreck lays from 60 - 75 mtrs. The wtaretemperature at the bottom is only 3 degrees celcius. At deco depth the temperature was 8 degrees... So: the runtimes were limited to 90 minutes (beacuse ofthe cold). Some divers had heated undersuits, but they suffered also from the cold. The visibility was good, but the water was very dark. That made efficienty exploration of the wreck very difficult. We had problems to sort out where we were exactly on the wreck. The size of the wreck made it also more difficult: 270 mtrs long and 35 meters high! You can find more inof on the Graf Zeppelin on Wikipedia. The divers came from Germany, Spain, Netherlands and the UK.
